How to add a managed disk to a virtual machine using the UKCloud Azure Stack Hub portal

    Overview

UKCloud for Microsoft Azure supports the use of managed disks on virtual machines (VMs). You can use managed disks as both OS disks and data disks.

For more information, see Introduction to Azure managed disks.

The following article shows you how to add a managed disk to a VM using the UKCloud Azure Stack Hub portal.

    Intended audience

To complete the steps in this article, you must have appropriate access to a subscription in the Azure Stack Hub portal.

      • Resource group - Select an existing resource group, or create a new one by typing a name for your new resource group.

      • Location - This will be frn00006, which is the location of the Azure Stack Hub.

      • Source type - Create a disk from a snapshot of another disk, a blob in a storage account, or create an empty disk.

      • Size - Select Change size to change the size of the disk and it's storage type.

        • Storage type - Whilst both Standard HDD and Premium SSD are available options, in Azure Stack Hub there is no difference between the two in terms of performance or pricing. Storage speed is instead determined by the size of the virtual machine that the disk is attached to. The Premium SSD option is only available to prevent compatibility issues with the Azure API.
